Gold is the position where the color is approximately flat in frequency response, with Sapphire being a brighter, and Opal being a warmer tonality. Phoenix II has five different tape-analog characteristics, The type is selected with a switch for easy comparison between the types, and the brightness is also selected with a switch. Phoenix II is a ground-up application derived from HEDD technology, and specifically engineered and optimized for Avid's PT 10 architecture. The Phoenix II process not only incorporates the nonlinear saturation characteristics created by magnetic tape itself, but also includes the interrelation of an analog tape recorder's record/reproduce electronics and equalization curves. His intimate knowledge of analog electronics, as well as decades of experience as a recording engineer has spawned a very useful, musical suite of plug-ins.
CRANE SONG PHOENIX II 32 BIT
Phoenix II uses 32 bit floating point math and has a lower noise floor than the original release.ĭesigner Dave Hill has crafted this software with the same attention to detail he used to create the electronics for ATR Service's much heralded "Aria" discrete tape recorders. Phoenix II runs both NATIVE and DSP on Avid's PT 10 AAX format.
CRANE SONG PHOENIX II UPDATE
2nd order harmonics are more tame and subtle in nature, whereas 3rd order have more ‘bite’, so this would be a useful application of the VSM-3.Format_quote Phoenix II is an update of Crane Song's suite of TDM plug-ins designed to emulate the unique properties of a magnetic tape machine. In that case, I’d use the 2nd Harmonic FET crusher to add drive to the lows (bass), and the 3rd Harmonic Zener Blender and target the high mids. Within each of the sections, you can target specific frequency ranges, so if you want to add a bit of warm saturation to the bass, and some crunch higher up in the frequency spectrum, let’s say on electric guitars, it’s fairly easy to dial in. The THD Mixer section allows one the ability to blend between the two stages, and you can choose between using them in series or parallel. You’ve got extensive control over 2nd and 3rd order harmonics sections, each of which have their own unique sonic qualities, and each can go from tastefully subtle, to blistering and brash.
CRANE SONG PHOENIX II GENERATOR
It’s a two-stage harmonic generator with mid-side capabilities.

The VSM-3, developed by Brainworx and Universal Audio is an emulation of an esoteric (and pricey) rack-mountable saturation unit from German company, Vertigo Sound. Its also the only tape sim plug-in that you can add after the mix is complete and it won't mess up the balances - where as duy tape is something i always had to mix with from the beginning due to its changing stuff so. Its unreal for its tape saturation characteristics, but bore than that is the 3d dimensionality it creates.

CRANE SONG PHOENIX II PRO
Crane Song Phoenix II (Electronic Download) AAX plug-in brings Dave Hill's world-famous tape emulation to both DSP-accelerated and native Pro Tools systems.PhoenixVerb was nominated for the 2014 Technical Achievement award by the Cinema Audio Society.
